2021 Scholarship Program Underway

To date, the Riverview Woman’s Cub has awarded more than 40 scholarships to some of our most deserving local youth who are headed to college or trade school.

In an interview, Donna Fore, RWC co-founder and chair of the club’s Scholarship Committee, talked about the status of the 2021 program.

Given the challenges of the COVID-19 pandemic which have affected many clubs like ours, will the RWC be awarding scholarships in 2021?

I’m happy to report that we will be again be awarding scholarships in 2021. Even though the pandemic has made fundraising difficult, we’ve still managed to raise funds through the generosity of club members and the community.

What are the types and categories of scholarships being offered in 2021?

The RWC will offer scholarships to local high school seniors based on Merit, High Volunteerism, Needs-Based, Vocational or Community college, and STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering or Math).

Are there any other scholarships being offered as part of the RWC scholarship application process?

Yes! The Greater Riverview Chamber of Commerce (GRCC) membership will be awarding five scholarships in the name of prominent local educator, the late Dr. Earl Lennard. The RWC Scholarship Committee is excited to help the GRCC distribute its scholarships to deserving young adults this year.

To quality for this special scholarship, students must attend either Riverview, Spoto, Lennard, or East Bay High Schools--or work for a GRCC member (or have a parent/guardian who works for a GRCC member).

It’s important to note that the GRCC scholarship is NOT needs-based and the student’s college, university or trade school of choice is not limited to Florida institutions.

When will the scholarship application be available and where can students find it?

The 2021 Scholarship Criteria, Application and Checklist materials can be downloaded from the RWC website starting Dec. 15, 2020. Go to

What is the deadline to apply for a scholarship?

The scholarship application deadline is March 1, 2021.

How will the Scholarship Committee deliberations be different this year?

There’s no doubt the virus will still be a factor early in 2021, so the committee will be meeting virtually to review the applications and choose the recipients. We encourage students to apply as soon as possible!!
